Water Quality Testing And Analysis

Testing water for its suitability for drinking or for livestock is one of the areas Leeder Analytical specialise in. Water quality is critically important, and whether it is for human consumption or for animals, use we offer an extensive range of water tests to assure its quality, or identify any contaminants.

From our purpose-built, NATA accredited laboratory in Melbourne, Australia, we test water samples from around the country including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and Adelaide. Our laboratory has also tested international water samples.

We service a diverse range of industries, including water boards, bottled mineral water and still water industries, to sports and energy drink manufacturers.

We offer an extensive range of analytical testing that covers both organic and inorganic compounds; isotope analysis and microbiological analysis.

To ensure the highest quality we take part in a range of local and international proficiency studies including Proficiency Testing Australia and Global Proficiency New Zealand.

Testing Drinking Water (Potability Analysis)

Drinking water covers a wide range of potential sources including domestic mains water, bore and tank water, groundwater, rainwater, surface water and bottled water.

Leeder Analytical use analytical methods for water quality testing from a range of sources including APHA, Australian standards, ISO, ASTM and US EPA.

Analysis performed by Leeder Analytical includes basic chemistry tests such as pH, colour, odour, TDS/TSS and a wide range of organic compounds including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) to pesticides.

If the water does not taste quite right or consumers are feeling unwell after consuming it, Leeder Analytical’s laboratory will be able to analyse and test the water sample to offer potential reasons through analysis of the compounds within the water sample.

Industry/Wastewater

Leeder Analytical’s water testing services include the testing of raw sewerage, leachates, effluents, industry process water, cooling towers and wastewater. Testing of wastewater may be required for recycling or to minimise risk to the environment and public health. Leeder can provide analytical services for Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs).

Leeder Analytical use analytical methods from a range of sources including APHA, Australian standards, ISO, ASTM and US EPA. Leeder Analytical offers a wide range of routine and non-routine testing.

Bottled Water Testing

The bottled water industry is continually growing, as is the need to test water quality and the suitability for bottling as well as its packaging material. Leeder Analytical offers all of the testing recommended by the Australasian Bottled Water Institute (ABWI).

Producers should be aware of potential contamination which may arise through cleaning and disinfection and the bottling processes in addition to the source itself.

Tests required to be conducted include physical parameters such as colour, turbidity, pH and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), inorganic compounds such as heavy metals and anions through to microbiological assessment.  Odour causing compounds such as geosmin, MIB and TCA can be tested for down to extremely low levels (ppt). MIB and geosmin are two common chemical compounds that can cause issues with taste and odour in drinking water. They are naturally occurring, produced by bacteria in soil and algae found in surface water (rivers, lakes and dams). Geosmin causes the water to taste earthy, some say it tastes like a rainforest. While TCA can produce an antiseptic taste and odour.

Leeder Analytical can analyse hundreds of compounds in a single method which identifies possible contaminants not identified in routine analysis. Further to this we also provide analysis of disinfection by-products such as haloacetic acids, trihalomethanes, chlorite, bromide, bromate and chlorate.

Nitrosamines analysis

Nitrosamines can be detected in water. Typical compounds we can analyse include: N-Nitrosodimethylamine, N-Nitrosomethylethylamine, N-Nitrosodiethylamine, N-Nitrosopyrrolidine, N-Nitrosomorpholine, N-Nitrosodi-n-propylamine, N-Nitrosopiperidine, N-Nitrosodi-n-butylamine and N-Nitrosodiphenylamine.

They choose Leeder Analytical because they’re able to trust in our quality, effectiveness and efficiency of our processes, and importantly the accuracy of our results and interpretations.

Water testing kits

Whether you’re an industrial facility or just want your drinking water tested at home we offer a range of test kits that can be purchased.

The basic kit offers testing for TDS, SS, pH, Conductivity, odour, taste and anions.

It’s a simple four-step process!

  1.  Purchase the test kit
  2. Fill the supplied bottles with your water sample
  3. Post back to us in our postage-paid box
  4. Our laboratory will email the results back to you promptly!

Who we work with?

Our NATA accredited laboratory conducts water testing for environmental engineers, scientists, consultants, beverage companies, regulators as well as bottled water manufacturers and government bodies. These professionals choose to work with Leeder Analytical because we offer reliable and accurate testing, as well as extract key insights from the scientific findings.

Some of the organisations we’ve worked with for water quality testing and analysis includes:

They choose Leeder Analytical because they’re able to trust in the speed, effectiveness and efficiency of our processes, and importantly the accuracy of our results and interpretations.

Methods of Water Quality Testing:

Leeder Analytical is able to develop/modify and validate methods to demonstrate the analytical procedure is suitable for its intended use.

We are able to demonstrate the methods accuracy, precision, specificity, limits of detection and quantitation, linearity and range, robustness and the uncertainty of the method.

Some of the analytical techniques include;

  • GC/MS
  • GC/MS/MS/MS
